Robert Jones (otherwise Williams), of Erbistock in the County of Denbigh, in the parish of Overton on 21 October 1773 assaulted Alan Sadler on the highway and robbed him of a coat (value 5/-); a waistcoat (value 1/-); a pair of breeches (value 5/-); a hat (value 2/-) a pair of stockings (value 6d) and a pair of shoes (value 2/-) (WALES 4/1009/1). He was ordered for execution on Monday 25 April at the usual place and afterwards his body to be hanged in chains at Lightwood Green (WALES 14/85). The execution was reported as on Monday last in Adam's Chester Chronicle and Shrewsbury Chronicle Saturday 30 April. In Bygones 1897/98 page 282 there is a report that "the land round the gibbet pole at Lightwood has been ploughed and bones unearthed."
